A 3-0 sweep over Central Catholic improved the Billerica High volleyball team to 7-5 on the season.
The Indians won by game scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-21.
The victory is Billerica’s fourth in its last five matches as BMHS was once 3-4 before its recent stretch of solid play.
Against Central, sophomore Ella Quin had 11 kills and 11 service points to spark Billerica while senior Aiden Arsenault added eight kills.
Senior Maggie Quin and senior Abby Downs each chipped in with seven kills.
Downs also contributed 20 service points.
In its previous match, Billerica swept Chelmsford, 3-0, by scores of 21-17, 23-21 and 23-19.
Senior Naomi Boldebuck led a stubborn Indian defense with 18 digs and 14 service receptions. Downs also stepped up on defense with seven digs to go with eight kills.
Freshman setter Meghan Downs helped guide the offense, handing out 23 assists and firing nine service points.
Other contributors included senior Olivia Bento with 12 service points and Ella Quin, who had eight kills and seven service points.
The only recent loss for BMHS was a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Methuen.
The Rangers topped Billerica, 25-23, 25-16, 15-25 and 25-9.
Abby Downs and Boldebuck once again sparked Billerica defensively, combining for 38 digs. Downs also had a team-high 13 kills.
Ella Quin had a big night at the net with four blocks and five kills and Arsenault chipped in with six kills and three blocks.
Before Methuen, the Indians chalked up three straight sweeps against Lowell, Lawrence and Dracut.
Against Lowell, senior setter Nicole Donati’s 20 assists and 25 service points by Abby Downs led the way.
In the Lawrence victory, Maggie Quin and Arsenault were outstanding at the net and Boldebuck had another good night on defense,
Other standouts defensively include senior Katelyn Sibert and senior Kayla Sullivan.
Seniors Ava Saverse and Katherine Medeiros also have played well.
Other seniors helping spark the Indians include Olivia Battcock, Brooke Battcock and Courtney Johnson.
Despite a 2-4 start to the season, the Indians still had some exciting moments early.
BMHS swept Westford Academy and then had a thrilling victory over North Andover that saw Billerica drop the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-16 before roaring back to win the final three games by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 15-12.
Defeats early in the campaign came against Tewksbury (3-1), Haverhill (3-0), Andover (3-0) and Andover (3-1).
The BMHS coaching staff is comprised of former Indians and consists of head coach Brittney McGinness, junior varsity coach Katie Mara and freshman coach Danielle Nickerson.
