Several local teams received their postseason assignments over the past two days while the MIAA will release its soccer pairings on Wednesday afternoon.
The Burlington High volleyball team opens its playoff run with a home match against Milton most like Thursday or Friday.
The Red Devils finished the year with a 16-4 record and are seeded 16th in Div. 2. Visiting Milton is seeded 17th and ended up 13-5 overall.
With a victory, BHS is likely on its way to a battle against top-seeded Westborough, who was undefeated this fall at 16-0.
The Red Devil field hockey team finished the regular season with a 3-13-2 record and did not qualify for postseason play.
The Burlington High football team and new coach George Balian missed out on the Div. 4 state tournament with a 3-5 record, but will host a non-playoff contest on Friday against Medford.
At Billerica, the playoffs will be loaded with Indians.
The football team improved to 8-0 overall with a victory in Haverhill last Friday night and 7th-seeded BMHS is slated to host 10th-seeded Westfield on Friday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Div. 3 playoffs.
With a win, the Indians will likely face second-seeded North Attleborough the following week, which would be a rematch of last year’s semifinal contest.
Shawsheen Tech’s unbeaten football team will also play Friday at home starting at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Div. 5 playoffs against visiting Worcester Tech.
The Rams beat Whittier Tech last Thursday to complete their 8-0 campaign. Worcester comes in with a 4-4 record.
Both Billerica High and Shawsheen Tech will start playoff action this week.
The Indians will give BMHS fans a nifty doubleheader as they will host Plymouth South at 5 p.m. at Billerica High, just a few steps away from the football field. BMHS is the 11th seed in Div. 2 and Plymouth South is seeded 22nd.
The Rams are in the Div. 4 state tournament after a 12-5 season and will visit Rockland on Thursday at 6 p.m. Rockland was 15-3 this fall.
